NinkiCZ's Blog

Welcome to our clan. We are the biggest and best clan in Demigod, and arguably the only clan with any hope of survival. What is our goal? To get games going without the ridiculous wait times, meet lots of cool people, and last but not least, have lots of fun. If you want a clan based on skill, you won't find one in this game.

Q: Are you the clan leader?

No, absolutely not. GM worked as a democracy, and the same deal goes here - majority rules. I am just your Public Relations (PR) guy. I have noticed that having a solid PR guy does keep the clan intact, and I have made sure I am pretty much accessible and visible as often as I can. I am on msn, xfire, skype, facebook and vent. If you need to find me, you probably will find me and of course I'll allow you to find me. Just ask if you're interested.

Q: What is the recruitment process?

There is no recruitment process, we will accept anyone who wants to join. Just add the tag, hop onto vent, say Hi and I'll add you on here. If you want I can serenade your entrance to the clan with a song of your personal choice, but it must be Top 40.

Q: Are there any rules?

1. Be nice, be respectful of others. I understand trash talking is part of the game for some, but please don't extend it to something personal. It's just a game after all.

2. Unless there is an agreement among the players in the game, please play balanced games. I understand that completely balanced games are probably not possible at the moment, but try to make it as balanced as possible.

3. Have fun!

If there are anymore questions, feel free to ask away!

Here are the current members of OMG (in alphabetical order):

OMG_awuffleablehedgie (a.k.a. OMG_BlackHatHedgehog)

So I used to refer to him as waffles, because I always thought his name was supposed to relate to waffles. Apparently, I was wrong. He's wuffleable - which means huggable apparently. I'm not sure how a hedgehog is huggable, but I guess it is in his world. Hedgie is his nickname, and he's probably the coldest person in this clan, but once you get used to his cold exterior, he turns out to be a really nice guy. He just has these awkward mood swings, where he's super energetic around 10pm EST, and then after 12am, he tends to be super cynical, and then after 3am he turns on his seductive bedroom voice. If you feel offended by him, don't be, because he's just a hedgehog. If you have any questions about any statistical stuff in Demigod, Hedgie knows all. It's actually kinda scary.

OMG_Blackmage (a.k.a. OMG_synnworld)

OMG-CaptainTaco

Taco was an important addition to the clan because he provides the comic relief for everyone. Just look for his posts and you will instantly know what I mean. He likes to describe himself as a terrible DG player, but he only says that just so his opponents will let their guard down and then Taco can strike. I always knew he was a sneaky guy, right when I saw his Pedobear avatar. As you can tell from his name, he loves Tacos but I'm not sure how strong that love is. In fact, none of us really know if his love for Tacos is stronger than tacoguy's. That is a question up for further discussion.

OMG_Defenz

A player from Vancouver. That's all I really know so far but if you're Canadian then that automatically makes you cool.

OMG-dontforgetyourpeanuts

I have a feeling this guy is loaded.

OMG_Epiphenomenon

Epi is what we all call him, so I suppose that's his nickname. He's the brains of the group, Mr.PhD in computer science. I will be joining him in September (hopefully if I survive the summer) but until then he is above me academically. I shall be your colleague soon Epi! He is the voice of reason. He's very mature and civilized, so I'm not really sure why he's a gamer (haha juust kidding). He is currently my academic advisor, even though he never agreed to it. But who cares, I'm sure he'll agree cause he's a nice guy. If you need academic advice, I suggest you go to Epi.

OMG-howboutnoooo

We all call him Max, because that's his name. He is the dog of the family - and that is not to say that he plays an unimportant role. Dogs are a man's best friend and they are extremely friendly, just like Max. Sometimes when you listen to him you might think he's on LSD, but really he's naturally just like that. He sees the world in magical ways, and he opens up your mind to a whole new world. He's also extremely active - as in he's pretty hyper and is always energetic until around 11pm when he usually goes to bed. I initally made fun of Max for sleeping so early as a teenager, but once I realized how much energy he spends just talking I understand why he's exhausted by the end of the day. If you are feeling down, go talk to Max. He is the guy in the clan who will cheer you up.

OMG__IN1

OMG_Jackho

OMG_Jona

Jona is just Jona. He's the drama queen. Yes, believe it or not I am not the biggest drama queen, he is and he's damn proud of it. From just 3 minutes of talking to him, you'd realize that he likes to put himself on the pedestal, and he does. But even with all that attitude, he's a lot of fun to hang out with. Listening to him on vent always makes my day. He also never rage quits, and never actually gets angry - which is kind of surprising now that I think about it. He also has nice eyes that he cherishes, I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

OMG_Jongalt26

Nickname is Jon. One continuous question that has been floating around is this, "Who would win in a fight against Jon, KAL-EL and yeahneil?" That is an answer no one has been able to answer yet. Those 3 in my mind are the tough trios - but really, they're all actually probably the nicest people in the clan right from the get go. I'm not going to lie, I was scared to talk to them initially but after maybe.. 2 days? I got comfortable with them. Jon to me is a wonderful fatherly figure so he is definitely the father of the family.

OMG_KAL-EL

His name is pronounced just like the way it's spelled. If Jon is our father, KAL-EL is probably our grandfather, except he's not even that old. So why do I call him the grandfather? Because he has so many people that support him that you can't help but admit that there's something about KAL-EL that makes people like him. The answer becomes quite obvious when you engage in a conversation with him. He always keeps it real, and is genuinely friendly. I still have a hard time matching his friendliness with his tough voice but I'm getting there.

OMG_Mybones

A fellow gleek, and although there are some disagreements between us about who the best character in glee is (obviously Rachel, but he refuses to admit her greatness), as long as he is a fan of glee, I am a fan of him.

OMG_NinkiCZ

I'm just your average joe who's Asian. I'm quite boring so let's move on to someone more interesting.

OMG_Nomilarac

OMG_Obiwhan

I've actually always wanted to meet Obi (his nickname) after yeahneil was making fun of my voice and mentioned that he also makes fun of Obi's. When I actually got to meet him, he wasn't quite what I expected because contrary to what yeahneil thinks, he just had a normal voice. Obi is one of the few that makes me literally LOL. I sometimes do wonder if he's telling me the truth about his age though. You'd understand if you've known him long enough. He is the joker. No, not the joker from Batman, but an actual guy who makes jokes. However, his jokes are NSFW - Not Safe For Work, so be careful.

OMG_pacov

There really isn't much to say about pacov because for anyone that comes to these forums, you really can't miss his name. I've never gotten to know him on a personal level, but from my encounters with him he's quite a wonderful person. I consider him the father of Demigod, as do most people I'm sure because he plays such an active role in this community. I've always wanted to get to know you myself and I'm glad that the opportunity has arrived. I shall definitely update this introduction after we become familiar with each other. I also did not think you were the type to listen to Ke$ha. From your posts, I always thought you were more the old skool type - so there's definitely lots of things for me to learn.

OMG_Pa1nKi11er

This is irek, yo.

OMG_RedneckNinja

OMG_DD-shred_demon

If you don't know who shred_demon is then you are definitely missing out. He is actually the real Gentleman. He has a beautiful Scottish accent and loves to drink tea. He cannot live without his tea. He is also extremely skilled with his use of emoticons (the best in DG?) and we all have lots to learn from him. I've never heard him get angry, he's always smiling in my mind and he always puts a smile on my face. Therefore, if you are feeling down, talk to shreddy. He is the clan's sun (yes as in the big thing that shines the world), but you'll have to ignore his strong desire to wear a skirt and become a transformer.

OMG_Soccer-mom

I remember seeing the name Soccer-mom on Lagwars and thinking what kind of a person would want to be known as a soccer mom. Although his name is a bit weird, he actually is nothing like his name on vent. First, he's not a mom. Second, he's not even a parent. Third, I'm not even sure if he likes soccer. He's actually one of the younger guys on vent but surprisingly is one of the most mature guys on there too. I suppose it has to do with the fact that he studies physics (which I think is absolutely amazing because I suck at physics). If you want to delve into a discussion on quantum theory, talk to him.

OMG_SoSick

Another Canadian from Edmonton, which makes him cool. Quite a laid back sorta guy, who's apparently an excellent cook. He kind of reminds me of jaws8you (who seemed to have disappeared somewhere) but without the sighing and he also never gets mad. He is a great guy to play games with because he's a great listener, always calm and even takes responsibility for his mistakes - which is quite a rare sight in Demigod, and even in life. He has almost made drastic improvements over these weeks and I'm sure he'll be excellent in no time.

OMG_Splitshadow

Don't be fooled by his age. Kids his age should be listening to Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, yet he chooses to listen to Proud Mary by CCR. He likes to blame me for not being on vent, when in fact I am always on and I do pm him from time to time yet he chooses to ignore my messages, probably from Maccilia's terrible influence. He says he can tell a lot about you from your voice, so you should ask him for a personality diagnosis if you're interested.

OMG_Teseer

Everytime I talk to Teseer on vent, he seems like a completely different person. If you look over his posts you can tell that most of the time he's under the influence of some sort of substance, which could explain why he's a different person each time. While he sounds like a tough dude, he's not aggressive at all and I don't think I've ever heard him get mad. He also has this disgusting passion for TB, it's kind of to the point where it's a bit obsessive in my opinion. If you have any questions about TB, ask this man. Provide him with TB replays and he'll be very pleased.

OMG_Zalera (a.k.a. OMG_Sol)

He's barely on so how am I supposed to know anything about him. All I know is that he pops up in the forums once in a while and he seems to be BFFs with Splitshadow.

OMG_Zelax_

OMG_Zex (a.k.a. Cowbuttzex)

I always thought cow was a weird guy because he's the only person who seems to get along with Peter, but when you talk to him he's actually quite normal. I think it's because he's very accepting of everyone, as you can tell from being our first ever member of the week. If you don't know who to talk to when you come onto vent, the first person I would suggest is cow, because he's very considerate and would do his best to include you in games. He's also very encouraging and I think he plays a vital role in merging the members of the clan together.

A post from the frog in another thread about Elemental:

Quoting Frogboy, reply 45(I'm up north on vacation typing on an extremely slow connection so bear with me)

I don't think people yet fully realize the completeness of Stardock's fail on Elementa's launch.

I'm going to write more about this but not only did we think v1.05 was ready for everyone but we felt v1.0 was too. That's the level of disconnect/poor judgment on our part we're talking about.

If the game had come out in February, it would still have been a disastrous launch because lack of time wasn't the issue. It was blindness, sheer blindness.  We felt the game was finished. And I speak of v1.0, not v1.05.  Blindness.

There will be massive consequences for Stardock's game studio.  I'll be talking more about this when I get back. But the game wasn't released early. The game was released poorly. Head in the sand syndrome imo.  I've read the reviews as much as possible given my hideous internet access up here and I agree with them. We just didn't see what they were talking about. We thought any complaints would be about polish points or something.

The point is, the issue here is far far worse than many of you think it is. I wish it was an issue of the game being released too early. That's an easy thing for a company to "fix".  Elemental's launch is the result of catastrophic poor judgment on my part.

EVERY competent software developer knows that the programmer must never be the one deciding whether the program is done. Yet, my love of Elemental broke my self discipline and I began coding on the game itself in vast amounts and lost any sense of objectivity on where the game's state was. I normally only program the AI on our games so I can keep a level of distance from the game itself to determine whether it's "Ready". On Elemental, I was in love with the world and the game and lost my impartiality.

We'll do better.

hey at least they've gotten past the 1st step of admittance.

This guy has some serious mood swings. One week ago Elemental was perfectly fit for release and now he says it wouldn't even have been in February. THe more i read him the more i wonder how he got StarDock to be the profitable company it is. I guess making games is not /quite/ the same as making silly windows skins/bloatware.

Anyway, this makes it 2 premature/disastrous launchs in a row, together with Demigods. Taking into account all the failures during DemiGod life, from launch to untested/non-working-as-intended patches and new demigods, i find hard to put all the blame in GPGs back anymore. I call serious sheer incompetence in the software testing/QA department .

As Thundercles said somewhere, if there's ever a Demigod II, maybe it's better StarDock doesn't have anything to do with it.

glad i waited to get elemental.

He's a moody guy, to be sure, but he honestly FELT like elemental was awesome before release.  They made a few big missteps (their final version that had a shit ton of changes from the last beta was never released externally for testing), MP didn't truly receive any external testing (its still disabled today), and so on.  This latest patch made a huge difference for me in terms of performance at least.

on Sep 03, 2010

Stardock's QA is seriously lacking, it's quite obvious. I think they need to hire an army of interns to do QA so at least they have available man hours. Because they seem to have difficulties catching them, possibly due to "real coders" not having time to test, only implement.

on Sep 04, 2010

Had a pretty abysmal night with demigod.  I think I ended up losing the vast majority of my games tonight.  And crashed out on > 50% of them.  Even games that were easy wins were, if not wrecked by crashes, were wrecked by good players acting like nobs... 1 rand ass game had me paired up with someone and bartek... the other team starts whining that our dg selection was too good (we had 2 ubs)... so what does bart do?  He stays at base for 2 minutes while we are fighting... then every time he shops, he sits at base for like a minute.  Pretty annoying crap.  Figure either he's a goof or someone on the other team was his bud.  Anyway, a night full of poop for me.  Shame I still love demigod.  It's currently my number 1 fav.  Hoping I can get into another game (maybe elemental once they release MP next year...)

Side note, I know a few of you follow what's going on with SD and elemental, and some don't... for those of you keyed into elemental... here's what Brad's decided to do as a result of elemental being a cluster... he's firing (pc term is laying off) some of his staff. He said no one on the elemental team is impacted, but he's taking this opportunity to trim the fat.  Now, I'm pretty damn sensitive to this sort of thing as I work for a fortune 1000 company and they did the same shit awhile back.  Here's where I super rant.

Consider you are the CEO of a company (I'm not directing this exactly at SD as the numbers will vary big time).  Your salary is 750k per year and you get 10 million in stock annually.  The company hits hard times.  To buckle down, you decide to cut 200,000 in payroll... now you are super important.  You decide to take that 200k directly from staffing (not out of your money of course).  So you task your VP's etc to find people to cut to come up with the 200k.  And eventually you find the least valuable people (oh they are super talented - prob the best in the business - but you need to to cut them (please don't take away from your 10million + 750k) - they are completely awesome, but need to be removed for the sake of the company... you just can't afford the payroll now).  So, in reality, the company takes the opportunity to cut loose some folks that aren't quite as important as others or are so so workers.  After all, they really didn't add that much.

And back to apples to apples on SD.  I'd wager Brad makes a good living.  Most likely he makes more than the folks that work for him - fair enough - the leader should.  He acknowledged and declared elemental's faults are because of his shortsightedness (GREAT LEADER MOVE - own up to your mistakes).  The consequence for his mistake is to layoff people.  He explained it some - he indicated that the proceeds from elemental were to go towards new game development and perhaps a brand new team working on a brand new game.  Anyway, from the post about this on shacknews (and brad's response on these forums), apparently some (if not all) folks were fired (laid off) while brad was on vacation...

I wish I could figure out how to help stardock succeed in games... seems a little strange to say that after my rant, but its like they blow completely obvious things.  With elemental, the second you start blabbing on about how many changes have occurred since the last beta - RELEASE THE DAMN NEW VERSION TO THE BETA TESTERS... then maybe you'll get viable feedback about that version.  There should NEVER be major revisions to a game that is in beta going to the final release build (eg lots of changes = beta test).  Maybe that sounds crazy, but would you rather have a QA team of 5 or 5,000... hmm... not a hard decision, is it?  Is there an unpaid consultant role I can play for SD just to help them better analyze things?  I could tell the folks who handled QA for demigod to READ the changelog and determine if those fixes are actually in place before loading the version onto impulse.  Again, another great move from a genius like me... its just alot of basic common sense.  And I don't understand how someone isn't on staff simply as a project manager or qa analyst that makes sure that common sense is there... its just sloppy... Maybe spend some money on some top talent there...

on Sep 04, 2010

To Pacov and Anyone Else Still Playing During Demigod's Death Throes:  I got a $100 dollar poker tourney to go to in town but I haven't played Holdem in like 8 months so I'll probably be out pretty quick... just an excuse to drink a few beers and chat with a few old friends.  So I'll probably be playing some Demigod for the next few days so hopefully there might be a few of you around for some random ass games?

About The Rant:  I only know Stardock from my experiences with Demigod so I'm not the expert on how the company operates but this Brad fellow has seemed rather... um... would volatile be the word?  It seems that everyone with any sort of passion for Demigod who worked at GPG was fired well before the release of the game, and it must have been a rather frustrating experience for Stardock to have to constantly twist arms to get support for the game they were publishing... probably a very different dynamic than the one they have with Ironclad?

Anyway, it doesn't seem that Brad is a big fan of learning from his mistakes.  Wasn't Demigod released without a large enough beta test as well?  Seems like a nice enough guy... maybe a little hot and cold sometimes, but I wish him and his company success... but it doesn't look like he's learned the lesson of not to get too personally vested in his projects.  Very nice of you to offer pro bono common sense advisement, but in my experience, people without common sense rarely listen to people who do have it.  Kind of a catch-22.

on Sep 04, 2010

Eh.. I've seen a LOT of ppl blame GPG for the faults of Demigod, and defend SD to the death.  I never really believed that.  I'm not saying GPG is completely without fault.. but I'd say the larger portion of fault belonged to SD.  It was absolutely no surprise to me that Elemental had the same crappy release.  Really just confirmed my opinions.

As for laying off people in different areas, perhaps they laid off ppl not related to gaming operations?  It's possible they wanted to reallocate funds to fully support the creation of games, not all the rest of the stuff SD does.  i.e. Why have a small team creating apps for iPad? (idk if they have that, just an example)  Sure it can be great to branch out and reach multiple areas, but if it becomes apparent to you that your core focus isn't receiving enough attention, get rid of the extra stuff and focus solely on what you really want accomplished.

Another reasonable explanation for firing ppl is because technology improves and processes take less people.  It's not the case here, but it's the case in many companies who lay ppl off.  They used to need them, but things became better, and they simply didn't need as many people to do the same job.
